Rain

James 1:2 “Count it all joy, when you meet trials of various kinds”

rain-silhouetteSomewhere between the smiles in the morning to frustration throughout the day we can make a decision to rise above a not so good or bad day and find something to smile about. We can decide to find joy. Sometimes it still rains but we can choose to consider trouble as an opportunity for great joy.

Aim

In our stressful military world, we are often pushed and pulled in different ways. At times these ways be contradictory to previous instructions and require clarification and negotiation to sort it out. I think it’s fair to suggest that it can be demanding, frustrating and even aggravating at times. I would also suggest that at times we don’t respond as well as we could.

Matthew 22:36-40 reminds us, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”  (Leviticus 19:9-18, Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Mark 12:28-34, Luke 10:25-28)

When we find ourselves squeezed in stressful situations our aim is to respond the best way Jesus tells us. Love God, Love Neighbor. He knows that what is inside of us dictates what comes out of us. He want us to know that too.

Like a tube of toothpaste, no matter how hard or softly it’s squeezed only toothpaste will come out.

If we love self over others, when squeezed, Pride, Arrogance, Abuse, Disobedience and Ungratefulness comes out of our spiritual tube (2 Timothy 3:1-5). But in contrast, if we love God over self and love our neighbor, when squeezed, Kindness, Graciousness, Truthfulness, Hospitality and Welcoming comes out (Galatians 5:22-23)

If you love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing well (James 2:8).

Aim for balancing Truth with Grace.

Change

uniform-inspectionJames 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change”.

Ministry takes some turns and twist people don’t expect and AR 670-1 is one of them.  This regulation above all draws the most passion, anger, frustration and conversation than any other regulation.

For those of you who have lived through an AR 670-1 change probably understand what I mean and those who haven’t will most likely find out soon or already see and hear the reaction to it.

I can’t say what ministry and care opportunities can come during this change or what reaction one may hear, see or experience.  I can suggest this however, keep eyes and ears open for opportunities for ministry and mentoring.

God never changes and we have His word that has remained consistent through the ages. God’s grace and love can abound in all situations and He want us to find those opportunities to interject His grave and love.

Charles Spurgeon said, “It is well for us that, amidst all the variableness of life, there is One whom change cannot affect; One whose heart can never alter, and on whose brow mutability can make no furrows.”

You might be surprised how God can work through something, even a uniform and appearance regulation.

Trusted Follower

God wants you to be a Trusted Follower of His.
Luke 22:35 “And He said to them, “When I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?”  So they said, “Nothing.”
James 1:5-6 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”
