Godliness is of Value

godliness value“Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.” 1 Timothy 4:7-10

Every day we should have situational awareness that our hope is in a living God, no matter what the news tells us or our mood of the day is, we should train ourselves to that hope.

Timothy reminds us that Fidelity (faithfulness to a person, cause, or belief, demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support) and Momentum (the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity) in the present life brings us closer to the life to come.

Person of Excellence

Colossians 3:17 says, “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” and later Paul writes, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24.

We are called to strive for excellence in order to be the best testimony for the Lord that we can be.

Excellence does not necessarily mean the absence of mistakes, but it does mean the presence of faith and determination. To be excellent at whatever God has called you to do, you must first ask for His strength to accomplish the task and then, secondly, His endurance to complete it.

You must also recognize that there is a difference between striving to be perfect versus endeavoring to be excellent. Achieving perfection is an impossible task because it never makes allowances for errors or missteps. Consequently, condemnation and discouragement often follow one’s pursuit of perfection because these unrealistic expectations lead to feelings of worthlessness and a sense of inadequacy.

A person who strives for excellence doesn’t give up when he makes mistakes, and he doesn’t avoid tasks for fear of failure. The true goal of excellence is to do the best you can with what you have at every moment.
Ask the God today to help you walk excellently before Him in speech and in service so that you may be more effective in your ministry to others.
