Psalm 107:1-6“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! 2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble 3 and gathered in from the lands, 4 Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; 5 hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. 6 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.”
More Reasons to be Thankful from Al Bryant
We thank God for life and health. These we share together. When plague strikes a city, terror reigns. Thank God for conscious well-being and supply of daily needs.
We are thankful for the benefits of civilization, for ordered government, for scientific improvements, for education, good streets, institutions of benevolence, industry, and art. America has done much to improve the lot of the common men and women like ourselves. We must share it with the world.
We are thankful for a Christian environment where temperance and goodwill are encouraged, and fellowship with kindly folk is possible for us all. What would we be without the church, the open Bible, and the Gospel of Christ? These are values beyond man’s power to estimate.
We are thankful for faith in the midst of tragedy. There is a God who understands and cares. Dark and mysterious is our life, but His way is good and true. Our trust is in our salvation.
We are grateful for the vision of better things to be, for the promise of Christ’s kingdom and universal brotherhood in Him. It is our highway from despair, cynicism, and degeneracy.
We thank God for the hope eternal. This life is but the seed of a life that will blossom into unimaginable glory according to the promise of God.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords,
for his steadfast love endures forever;” Psalm 136:1-3
George Muller said” Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him and expect help from Him, He will never fail you.”
Man might fail you. Government might fail you. Economics might fail you. You may even fail yourself … BUT
“Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”Deuteronomy 31:6
God’s gift to us is too wonderful for words with no strings attached. A gift is not a gift unless it is accepted. God has given you His Son, but ownership is conditional on acceptance. God does not force His gift on us, but He asks us to receive by faith the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. A person who deliberately refuses God’s offer of love, mercy, and forgiveness is lost. Most people gratefully receive a gift when given in love. The greatest sin that a person can commit is to refuse God’s love.
Psalm 100 “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are his people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His name! For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.
At this time of year, I sit and thank God for giving me everything—to include His son, Jesus Christ. We want to make such gratefulness as prominent as the giant turkey on the table and see thanksgiving become a way of life.
There’s no better thanksgiving wisdom than that found in God’s Word, specifically The Old One-Hundredth (Psalm 100), “A psalm. For giving thanks.”
Following that, there are many directives listed that can help us live our Thanksgiving …
Make a joyful noise to the Lord
Come into His presence with singing
Know that the Lord, he is God
Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise
Give thanks to Him; bless His name
[Remember] For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.
Reflect on these today, and ask the Lord how He can help you really live your Thanksgiving each day of the year.
Take time to live your Thanksgiving and call or visit someone who is alone or having a hard time (for whatever reason) on this holiday.
